Chelsea came to live with us because her previous owner said she was interfering with her social life. Chelsea is a cockerpoo (cocker spaniel/poodle mix). Before Champ had his problem with his legs, Chelsea lost the use of her back legs. I found out later that both Cocker Spaniels and Poodles are prone to back problems. The scenario is almost the same...I came home one day and she couldn't walk. I wrapped her up in a blanket and took her to the vet who then sent me to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. The entire trip, she never made a sound. I called back the next day and learned that a disc in her back had exploded and she would need surgery. I agreed to the surgery even though they couldn't guarantee it would make her walk again. She stayed at the hospital for about a week. When I picked her up I could see the foot long scar running down her back. As she waddled towards me I knew that everything would be alright. Since then she has had no back problems but is now being treated for a thyroid disorder.
